The IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, IEMDC, will celebrate in Miami, FL in 2017 a historic milestone: 20 years after its inaugural edition, which was held in 1997 in Milwaukee, WI. A few of the colleagues, who were part of the original organizing committee and of the initiative team within the IEEE Power and Engineering Society, continue to be active in the professional community and will be personally recognized during a special anniversary event in Miami.

Over the twenty years since its inception, IEMDC has grown to be the IEEE premier conference on electric machines and drives and an example of collaboration between the four sister electric power engineering societies of PES, IAS, PELS and IES.
Initially proposed for Milwaukee, WI, the 2017 the location of was finally selected as Miami, allowing the conference to return to the site of its 2009 edition, which was one of the most successful in the series.
